Goodreads:  For twenty-eight years, things have been tripping along nicely for Cannie Shapiro. Sure, her mother has come charging out of the closet, and her father has long since dropped out of her world. But she loves her friends, her rat terrier, Nifkin, and her job as pop culture reporter for The Philadelphia Examiner. She's even made a tenuous peace with her plus-size body.

But the day she opens up a national women's magazine and sees the words "Loving a Larger Woman" above her ex-boyfriend's byline, Cannie is plunged into misery...and the most amazing year of her life. From Philadelphia to Hollywood and back home again, she charts a new course for herself: mourning her losses, facing her past, and figuring out who she is and who she can become.

Kritters Thoughts: What a great book to start the new year!

I may have read this one before, but it was before I joined goodreads and before I started blogging, so it was fun to go back in time and possibly read or reread this one.

Cannie Shapiro thought that she was comfortable in her own skin until an ex writes a column that really describes who she is physically and then maybe she doubts just how confident and comfortable she ever really was.  With the cutest dog as a sidekick, this book was such an easy read.

I had always heard that authors write what they know and I wondered often while reading this book how close to Jennifer Weiner's true life did this book end up?  I wondered what was fact and fiction and what was a little of both!

I loved reading about a character who was just a little different from most.  I loved that this book didn't completely revolve around love and instead focused on professional fulfillment also as sometimes in life that can be something that is very rewarding.  The friends and family that surrounded this character were just great and I wouldn't mind seeing a book center around one of them at some point!

Remembering this as a debut novel, it is great to know that Jennifer Weiner had many hits after this book was published - but also had a hit with this one that still stands the test of a little time.

Rating: absolutely loved it and want a sequel
