Goodreads:  I would do anything to protect my family. It’s my fault they’re in danger…

A year ago, someone broke into our home. He stood outside our bedroom, with our children asleep down the corridor, and knocked on the door.

But the worst moment came later, when I found out who had nearly destroyed my family, and why.

Now my husband has booked us a surprise vacation. In a beautiful cabin on the shore we will rest, talk, recover.

But I can’t relax. When I drive to the store, or stroll down the beach, I am always looking over my shoulder, my heart racing.

Because no matter how hard my husband tries to pretend, we both know it’s not over.

And I know he still doesn’t trust me…

Kritters Thoughts:  Two storylines, one family at two points in time.  One plotline starts a year in the past when this family had a horrible tragedy as someone breaks into their home in the middle of the night and their family's safety is put at risk.  The other plotline starts a year forward as this family is taking a vacation after a hard year and hoping to repair all the damage that that one night did on them.

It will be hard for me to review this book because this book is so good and you don't want to or need to know much to dive in.  The twists and turns and how things unfold are genius.  I don't want to even hint at anything because I was so glad to be clueless as it all went down.

I will say this author created a fantastic cast of characters that I cared about quickly and deeply.  I wanted to know how this family would heal from the pain and wanted to see how they could get their lives back on track after such a tragedy.  This author wrote each character of the family so well that I cared about each one of them and I loved how in the chapters that went back in time the reader learns so much back story as to how that one night affected them all and how they each responded.

My first Miranda Smith book and I hope that she writes more that are just like this one, because this one was so good!

Rating: absolutely loved it and want a sequel
