Goodreads:   What would you do if your daughter was kidnapped and given only a week to live?

Lauren Pennington is celebrating her junior year abroad when life comes to a screeching halt. At Munich's Hofbruhaus, she engages in an innocent flirtation with a charming stranger for the length of a drink. Drink finished, Lauren leaves--only to be snatched from the streets and thrown into an unmarked van.

Officially, Aidan Deveraux is a communications expert for one of the largest financial firms in the world. In his secret life, the former Marine heads the Zermatt Group, a covert team of military and spy agency operatives that search the data stream for troubling events in an increasingly troubled world. When his artificial intelligence system detects Lauren's kidnapping, Aidan immediately sees the bigger picture.

Silicon Valley: Lauren's father, Vance Pennington, is about to launch a ground-breaking technology with his company NanoUSA--a technology that the Chinese are desperate for. No sooner does Aidan arrive on Vance's doorstep to explain the situation than the father receives a chilling text message: hand over the technology or Lauren will be dead in a week.

Kritters Thoughts:  Before reading this book I was already an Andrea Kane fan, so when I was pitched this book I was on board from the beginning.  Lauren Pennington is a college student abroad and a daughter of a powerful executive at a company that is about to release a major product that could change the manufacturing world and some people don't want it out there - enough to go to extremes to stop it.

If you have read the Forensics Instincts series and loved it, then this is perfect to pick up and if you haven't read the series, you can start here and I would sort of define this book as a spin off as some characters show up in this book and I was excited to see them come into this show.

I loved this book just liked I have loved every other book by Andrea Kane.  She can write a great suspenseful plot with driving pace and fantastic characters.  There are just enough twists and turns in the plot that I am kept reading and guessing but in no way annoyed with how it all turns out.  The characters have depth and even the culprit is someone interesting with creative motive that I can be completely satisfied with the outcome.  Andrea Kane could be one of my favorite mystery/thriller writers.  Go check her out!

Rating: definitely a good read, but can't read two in a row

Disclosure of Material Connection:  I received one copy of this book free of charge from Partner in Crime Tours.  I was not required to write a positive review in exchange for receipt of the book; rather, the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
